TAKING NOTICE

There is certainly something interesting about Instagram.  It’s not the filters or the amount of “likes” a particular picture garners.  It’s not the app’s ability to let someone showcase their silly and stupid (perfectly okay as we all do it at times), it’s not the gazillion ways it’s good for business and brands.  It’s not even it’s ability to let someone waste time creatively.

It’s the noticeability factor.  I seem to pay attention quite a bit more to the world around me in the year so I’ve been infatuated with Instagram.  Angles, colors, shades, edges…the list goes on.

Heading on a coffee run with co-workers recently, one suggested I snap a shot of what you see above.  Clearly I did.  Usually, it’s me slowing down the pace of everything while friends wait for my in shutterbug to buzz off.  “Mike, this would make a good picture,” said the coworker.  He was right.  It did turn out to be a good photo.  It just makes you think.  It makes you wonder.  It makes you see things a little differently.  It’s a muse of sorts to connect with creativity on a greater level.

If anything, it makes you notice the little things in life you miss — despite walking past them daily.  Now, I treat Instagram like a game.  If the picture doesn’t have a point of view or it lacks luster; I don’t bother.  If you’re not using this app, I encourage you to start. If you are using this app, I challenge you to create a collection that will make others go “hmm.”  When you’re looking at the world differently, things will appear differently.
